| TDOC promote Deaflympics with decorated bicycles. |
Have you ever seen a sea of bicycles on the street? On Taiwan Bike Day (May 4) last Sunday, more than 10,000 bicyclists rode from Da-jia Riverside Park to the President’s Office in Taipei City. The event was organized by Cycling Life-style Foundation, co-hosted by the National Sports Affairs Council and Taipei City Government. To promote Taipei 2009 Deaflympics and support green movement, TDOC staff called together Deaf athletes and Deaflympics volunteers to join the biking crowd.
A bicycle festoon competition was also held. All the bicycles were decorated with flowers, balloons, toys, flags and special ornaments created by the cyclists. The TDOC Team wore Deaflympics shirts and decorated bicycles with big Deaflympics flags. The eye-catching decoration won the Team a special prize.
Cycling is one of the 20 competition events of Taipei Summer Deaflympics in 2009. There will be road race, points race and time trial. Chinese Taipei Sports Association of the Deaf also plans to organize an International Cycling Race for the Deaf in November 2008. The coming up cycling events and increasing green awareness side by side will certainly cook up a cycling fever.
