Mayor Hau and former Mayor Ma invited 4 Chinese Taipei Deaflymipcs gold medalists to count down on the stage in the Taipei City Government’s “Count Down to 2008: New Year Eve Party” in front of the City Hall.
Fireworks and pop singers’ live concert are as usual the major events in the New Year’s Eve party. However, the party spotlight this year was drawn to Taipei’s hosting Summer Deaflympics in 2009. Four Chinese Taipei Deaflympics gold medalists, Chiu-mei HE, Lan-feng CHEN, Ching-lung AN, and Li-hsiao CHANG, along with the Chairman of the TDOC and the Sky Frog were introduced, showing “the power of silence” to the crowd of approximate 600,000 people.
Marvelous fireworks shoot up to the sky from the Taipei 101 Building at the second the New Year arrived, followed by the display of “2008, Love Taiwan” on the Building. “Go, Taipei, Go!” Mayor Hau and former Mayor Ma welcomed the New Year in sign language. Through the marvelous fireworks show, the message that Taipei, the host city of the 21st Deaflympics in 2009 was delivered to the world.
The New year arrived, a new stage opened up. TDOC will make every effort to push the 2009 Taipei Summer Deaflympics to the center of the world.
