Delegates of sports associations for the deaf of Asia gathered in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia on December 5, attending the 1st Asia Pacific Deaf Youth Sports Conference. Mr. Chih-He CHEN, President of the Asia Pacific Deaf Sports Confederation and the Chinese Taipei Sports Association of the Deaf, hosted the Conference.
50 delegates of 13 countries, including Japan, South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Singapore, Kuwait, Iraq, Sri Lanka, Tailand, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates attended the Conference. Hundreds Malaysians participated in the conference to show their supports for deaf sports.
Youth is the world future. Therefore, the highlight of the 1st Asia Pacific Deaf Youth Sports Conference highlighted was on cultural heritage. Topics of the Conference ranged from the history of the Asia Pacific Deaf Sport Confederation to the right of deaf youth in sports, declaring the deaf community’s persistence to pursue equality through sports. The importance of discovering potential deaf youth athletes was also emphasized. The Conference invited scholars devoting in the subject to give seminars. A scholar from Japan brought his latest research to share with the attendants.
TDOC Chairman Chih-he CHEN’s reports on the progress of 2009 Taipei Summer Deaflympics and the 2007 Taipei World Deaf Swimming Championships were applauded by all. While introducing TDOC, Chairman Chen also invited scholars and experts to share experiences and give suggestions to make 2009 Taipei Summer Deaflympics the most successful ever. |
