Taipei 101 Building will be hosting “2007 Taipei 101 Run Up” on Novermber 25. “2009 Taipei Deaflympics” was invited to join the warm-up match today (November 18.) 12 athletes of the Chinese Taipei Deaflymipcs team stepped up the first to announce the coming race and expressed their wishes to challenge to “the top of the world."

The warm-up match had the same specification as at “2007 Taipei 101 Run up,” such as the magnetic card system for accuracy and an onsite medical professional team. The Chinese Taipei Deaflympics athletes of warm-up match have been trained for physical strength, their potential of challenging to the top was beyond doubt.

The 12 Chinese Taipei Deaflympians were from different sports, though the majority was athletics: decathlon gold medalist Ching-Lung AN , 400M heroic Lan-Feng CHEN and Pei-Fang LIU, medium-distance runner Hung-Wen CHEN, Hsiang-Hing FU and Hsiao-Hua ZENG, Mao-Ying HUANG of both athletics and volleyball, Chia-Mi KUO and Chung-Hsien CHOU of throwing, Yong-Chih CHUANG of basketball, Mao-Ying HUANG of Taekwondo and tennis player -Will Chin.

The Run-up race is different from road running. Instead of being timed once at the end point, contestants are timed a few times through the race. At the warm-up match today, every climber wore a timing chip of high accuracy to record the finishing time. The leading climber today was a 19-year-old young athletics, Hsiao-Hua ZENG, finishing 35 floors at 6: 09. Hsiao-Hua ZENG excitedly showed the certificate to the media after the match, though he expected to have achieved better than 6:09. He also competed in “Taipei 101 Run Up 2005,” the result was about 17 minutes. The runner-up was Ching-Lung AN, Zeng’s college senior. He gladly congratulated Zeng, and joked that “being young is the best advantage.” He also encouraged ZENG to impress again at the Deaflymipcs in 2009.
The female winner was Lan-Feng CHEN, the 400M bronze medalist at the 2005 Melbourne Deaflympics. After the match, she felt that the run-up match was also a tough challenge, her legs were still very sore at the interview. Consistent practice is obviously a must for great scores, she said.

Joining the endorsement celebrity of “Taipei 101 Run Up 2007” Sue Wang, a famous deaf model in Taiwan, guests cheered with the athletes and the crowd at the warm-up match, including TDOC Managing Director Dr. Emile C.J. Sheng, TDOC Logistics Division manager Chih-Ho CHEN, Taipei 101 Public Relations assistant manager Chia-Hao LIU, and the business division assistant manager Mr. Min-Jie CHANG of TOYOTA, the major sponsor of the event.
