Celebration and Appreciation: Two Years to the 2009 Taipei Deaflympics

2009 Taipei Sumemr Deaflympics will take place in two years.  Chinese Taipei Sports Association of the deaf held the Seminar on Knowledge of Sports for Chinese Taipei Deaflympics team on Sept 7th, hoping to strengthen athletes’ mind in addition to the vigorous physical training to bring out best performance at the Summer Deaflympics in two years from today.

Also held was the awarding ceremony of “99 Sports Festival,” hosted by Y17 (Taipei Municipal Leisure Center for the Youth) was held.  In the ceremony, the torch of 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games was handed to the 2009 Taipei Summer Deaflymipcs, represented by Mr. Ching-lung AN, a Chinese Taipei Deaflympics athlete.  It is to pass on the Olympics heritage and wish a successful Summer Deaflympics in 2009.

The prologue of the two-day seminar started in the afternoon.  The curriculum included sports psychology and consultation for deaf athletes, prevention and care of sports injury, anti-doping control, and the road to gold medals.  Chinese Taipei Sports Association of the Deaf, the sponsor, aimed the participating athletes to share knowledge and experiences at the seminar.

At the opening ceremony, Secretary General Yu-Ping CHAO stated that the Chinese Taipei deaf athletes have excelled in many competitions this year.  In the past two years, Chinese Taipei Deaflympics athletes have received more and more public attention gradually.  He encouraged athletes to win for the motherland and to prove themselves in two years.

Chinese Taipei deaf bowling, tennis, and swimming team won several gold medals in the world deaf single sports events this year.  Chinese Taipei Sports Association of the Deaf and the 2009 Taipei Deaflympics Organizing Committee (TDOC) will host the “908 Appreciation Lunch" at 11am on September 8 in National Taiwan Science Education Center after the two-day seminar.  The lunch is to celebrate deaf athletes’ achievement this year and thank TDOC staff and volunteers.
