What are courage and fortitude? The event “EVEREST beyond the limit” and 21st Summer Deaflympics represented the most truly explanation.
Taipei Mayor Hao, Long-Bin and Mark Inglis, the first limb-amputated person who climbed up to the peak of Everest, and three Chinese sportsmen passed the Torch one by one ahead to the top of the world.
Mayor Hao thought that “EVEREST beyond the limit” matched the theme of 21st Summer Deaflympics. The event organized by Taipei City Government and Discovery Channel, is the best example of how human will triumph over nature. Mayor Hao wanted to arouse everyone’s attention to 21st Summer Deaflympics.
The event is lasting for one month, and has the posters of Chinese sportsman:Chang, Li-Hsiao,(Bowling, Gold Medal)and sportswomen:Chen, Lan-Feng(400m Hurdles of Athletics, Bronze Medal)and Tzeng, Shu-Ning(50m Backstroke of Swimming, Gold Medal)
Chen, Lan-Feng was holding the Deaflympics Torch and was followed by An, Ching-Long(Decathlon of Athletics, Silver Medal)and Chou, Tsung-Hsien(Pole Vault, Shot Put, Discus). Chen passed the Torch to Mayor Hao. Mayor Hao, Ling, Dong-Min, the president of DISCOVERY, and Mark Inglis lit the peak of Everest.
Mark Inglis won Silver Medal of Cycling in 2000 Paralympics and climbed up to the peak of Everest last year. He indicated that it is more than to overcome the limit of one’s physical condition, but to challenge the mind. Lnglis hoped every sportsman can make it beyond the limit.
